Woodstock ’94 took place at Winston Farms in Saugerties N.Y. on August 12, 13 and 14. This event, produced by Michael Lang, celebrated the silver anniversary of the original Woodstock Festival. Though only 164,000 tickets were sold, the crowd at Woodstock '94 was estimated at 350,000.
Considered by many to be one of the top music festivals of all time, Woodstock '94 captured much of the feeling of the original concert. Winston Farms was considered for the original Woodstock festival because of its proximity to where Bob Dylan lived. The town of Saugerties had “gathering regulations” which made it difficult to obtain permissions by the promoter. He chose not to play in the original but agreed to play in Woodstock '94. In addition to Bob Dylan, such notable performers included Metallica, Aerosmith, 9 Inch Nails, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Joe Cocker, The Allman Brothers, The Band, Traffic, Green Day, Santana, Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge. On Friday, many local bands, such as the Paul Luke Band, played on stage the first day.
The original Woodstock Music Festival site in Bethel, is on the National Register and commemorates a three-day music festival that took place on August 15 - August 18, 1969, on nearly 300 acres of rolling farmland in rural Sullivan County, NY. Listed on February 28, 2017, Woodstock is nationally significant, under Social History and Performing Arts/Music, as one of the most important cultural and social events of the second half of the twentieth century. The festival was the definitive expression of the musical, cultural, and political idealism of the 1960s and was recognized almost immediately as a watershed event in the transformation of American culture.
This is a local celebration, sponsored by the Saugerties Chamber of Commerce, taking place in local venues in Saugerties N.Y. It features music, art, photographs, and all things Woodstock '94. We are also interviewing people who played at, attended or worked at Woodstock '94 to show on local tv and at some of the venues. Our Celebration depends on the donations and sponsorships from the people and businesses who realize the importance of the event.
The Celebration kicked off Memorial Day weekend with the Saugerties Chamber of Commerce's "Groovin' Around Saugerties" installation of "hippie buses." These buses are designed by local artists and displayed along the streets in the Village of Saugerties. You can bid online for the buses or you can bid in n person at the auction on September 15 at SPAF in Saugerties. Tickets are available at Town and Country Liquors and Smith Hardware.
